Mini Gators
Mini Gators is an introductory group to the Idle Hour Swim Team. This group is in its fifth year and is designed for kids who want to be on the swim team, but can’t swim the length of the pool yet. Your kids will be in the water for 30 minutes, two times per week. Our coaches will be giving in-water instruction, with each coach working with 4-5 kids at a time. This is a great opportunity for your kids to improve and have increased exposure to the water.
Whether it happens this summer or sometime in the future, the goal of the Mini Gators group is to get every kid comfortable in the water and eventually have them swim the length of the pool unassisted. Typically, our kids in Mini Gators also do private lessons with one of our coaches to expedite their development in the water, but the choice is yours. Once your child can comfortably make it the length of the pool, they are encouraged to come to their respective age-group practices. They can then start swimming in meets with the team!
Requirements for joining the Mini Gators
- Must be at least 3 years old as of June 1st (born before June 1, 2023).
- Your child must not be afraid of the water. We expect that there may be some reluctancy from the kids at the beginning of the season if your child has not been in the water recently. We will allow a grace period (2-3 practices) for your child to acclimate. If we do not see a change in behavior within that time frame, we will recommend that your child move to 1-on-1 private lessons with the chance to return to the group once they are more comfortable. Please know this is not a punishment. We want to provide positive and impactful coaching, and this is what we have found to be most effective for everyone.
